All excavations and reinstatements are carried out to the standards of: ‘New Roads and Street Works Act’ ensuring that the end client requirements are met. All works are fully inspected to ensure quality and compliance prior to handing the project over to the client.

Our competent teams have the required training for carrying out all forms of streetlighting.

ECS, CSCS, NRSWA, HERS, NERS and all associated Plant Accreditations.

Our clients include local authorities and tier 1 contractors such as VolkerHighways, Enerveo, FM Conway and many others.

Luminaire replacement schemes

FMJ have replaced over 50,000 luminaires. Major luminaire replacement schemes have included:
• Pre-site health and safety and asset verification surveys
• Permitting
• Installation of local traffic management
• Replacement of non- functional luminaires
• Replacement of decorative or heritage luminaires
• Installation of central management system (CMS) we have installed over 9,500 to date.
• Inventory upgrades
We have completed major lighting upgrades on the following schemes: Camden, Haringey, Buckinghamshire, Medway, Oxfordshire, Dover Districts and Greenwich.

Column replacements (or new installations)

Our one-stop-shop process ensures all activities, including existing column disconnection and removal, replacement with new column and lantern, reconnection, testing inspection and reinstatement are carried out in one visit with all activities usually carried out the same day.

Being an Independent Connections Provider (ICP) means that we plan and carry out our connections, ensuring that there is a coordinated approach to each activity. Whether the connection is Metered/Non -Metered, Single or Three Phase we can complete the connection.

Our project case studies

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead 2020 – Present

Client: The Royal Borough Windsor & Maidenhead

FMJ Solutions Ltd are the maintenance contactor for the prestigious Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, where we maintain 14,363 streetlights and 2,500 signs and bollards. The asset includes 1.216 heritage style units, floodlighting, subways signs and bollards and 20,000m of private cable network.

Maintenance activities include:

  • Planned maintenance.
  • Inspection and testing
  • Response to emergencies
  • Reactive response (fault repair)
  • Asset replacements either ad-hoc or replacement schemes

Our works are monitored via a suite of KPI’s that include measures for in light performance (over 99.5%), work being carried out on time and adherence to the permitting system. We have also carried out all the following within contract timescales:

  • 756 emergency call outs
  • Over 2500 fault repairs
  • Over 300 column replacements
  • Over 1200m cable replacement

During our time in Windsor and Maidenhead we have upgraded all street lighting to LED resulting in a reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions of over 60%.

Stovell Road pedestrian underpass upgrade, Maidenhead

Client: The Royal Borough Windsor & Maidenhead

We replaced the existing water damaged recessed low pressure sodium luminaires with 19 new units incorporating LEDs.

Works incorporated replacement of fittings, and control system along with the testing and commissioning of the existing wiring system in accordance with BS7671.

Goswell Road Footpath – Refurbishment of heritage luminaires

Client: The Royal Borough Windsor & Maidenhead

Following UK best practice, we re-used rather than recycled the heritage style units through the public realm area in Goswell Road, Maidenhead. The luminaires were suspended on a catenary system or incorporated in the ironwork arch on each entrance to the area.

We installed temporary lighting while lights were being refurbished by The Zeta Group in nearby Bicester.

The refurbished lights were then reinstalled and upgraded to incorporate CMS.  

A404 private network cabling replacement

Client: MWAY Communications

We recently replaced over 1,500 meters of private cable network on the A404. Work included:

  • Excavation
  • Installation of ducting and chambers and reinstatement
  • Replacement of feeder pillar, columns, and signposts
  • Cabling and terminations

Testing and inspections

Greenwich column replacement

Client: FM Conway
Date: Feb 2022 to Feb 2023

We replaced 2551 existing luminaires with lights incorporating LED light sources for Greenwich Council.

Works were carried out on time and to agreed cost on roads across this congested borough.

London Borough of Camden lantern replacement

Client: Enerveo
Date: 2020 to 2022

To allow works to take place we carried out pre-site surveys that included a structural assessment in accordance with ILP guidance GN22. At this stage we identified on site hazards and traffic management requirements to ensure that when works were carried out, they could be completed at first visit.
